“Every piece we make starts with a conversation — understanding how you live, what you love, and what matters most to you.” Nathan Millar, Founder.

Our Story

Solum Bespoke was founded on a simple belief — that a kitchen should be as considered as the home it lives in.

Nathan spent nearly two decades refining his craft in some of Britain's finest bespoke joinery workshops, developing a craft standard shaped by traditional techniques, exacting detail, and a deep respect for natural materials. Every project — from a London townhouse bookcase to a Cheshire country home — reinforced the same truth: that genuinely bespoke joinery, made by hand with real skill, transforms how people live in their homes.

When Nathan, his wife Jenny and their two children relocated to Wellington, they brought that craft with them. Solum Bespoke was born from the conviction that Wellington needed a joinery partner that leads with design thinking, not just execution — one that works alongside architects and designers from the earliest stage, and delivers work that improves with every year that passes.

Solum takes its name from the Latin word for foundation — reflecting our belief that exceptional joinery forms the foundation of a well-lived home. It reflects everything we believe about what we make — joinery built to last generations, rooted in craft, and designed around the way you live.

We intentionally work with a select number of clients at any given time, ensuring every project receives our complete focus and attention. If you are building or renovating and want joinery that is truly made for you — we would love to hear from you.

Our Process

Exceptional projects are built on a clear and well-considered process.

Over the past 17 years, we have refined the way we work to ensure every project progresses smoothly from initial enquiry through to installation. Our process is divided into clear stages, providing structure, transparency, and confidence at every step.

Each stage is supported by clear communication, detailed documentation and transparent project management. A staged payment schedule reflects progress throughout the project, ensuring complete clarity for both client and maker. By being open, organised, and communicative throughout, we aim to make the experience of commissioning bespoke joinery as enjoyable as the finished result.

Every Project Starts with a Conversation…

Whether you're planning a complete renovation, building a new home, or simply exploring ideas for a single piece of bespoke furniture, we'd love to hear about your project.

Every home is different, and so is every client. That's why we take the time to understand your priorities, your aspirations and your budget before recommending the most appropriate solution.

An initial conversation is always relaxed, informative and without obligation.
